I guess I have to admit I love the controversy that these lists create...seems like every site has made a top games list. Here is IGN's current list...not too bad in my opinion.

Note to everyone: Diddy Kong Racing did not make the list. GG IGN.

Doom at 19? I may not like it, but it works.

Chrono Trigger and Super Mario World are backwards. Plus, Super Mario 3 should be up with them.

Shadow of the Colossus? I wanted that game. By what I saw and read, no way in hell is it a top 50 game.

Gah. SC = 1 spot short of a deserving top 10. But, there's definitely 10 other games out there. Kind of like one in the 30's: Pokemon Blue.

Ok, y'all know I hate the game at #6. I don't see what's so good about it. I played it for 5 hours, and the start was so pathetic and boring that I never touched it again, and that's the ONLY game I've given up on for a bad start.

No it shouldn't. It was a variation of mario kart that came around in your generation. Every version of mario kart is superior so why waste space with a sub part game?

I don't agree with them leaving Mario Kart 64 off at all either. Like I said, the list absolutely sucked, and that's all there is to say about it.

there are way too many games that are a lot higher than they should be.

heck my top games list would consist of SMB, Halo, Goldeneye, and any other game that tickled my fancy at one point or another.

Okay you think, you could rate this list better roggie? IGN is one of the formost game sites ont he net. I beleive their rating are one ofthe best sets ive ever seen. The put the top10 there because they brought something NEW and DIFFERENT/NEVER BEFORE SEEN, to the gaming world. Some of the biggest names that stick out in my mind are tetris, SM and Starcraft and Civilization. come out with something new and never before seen and the list WILL change, but story lines and set up; RPG, FPS, RTS, or Arcade.

What most people do is make their favorite game list. That is much, much different from a best games list. Its certainly what Roggie did. I am sorry, there is just no good argument for Diddy Kong on a best games list. It only belongs on your personal favorite games list. And thats fine. Go right ahead and love certain fun but insignificant games. By that logic some of my favorite games from my childhood should make the list: Battletoads, kung fu, SimAnt, top gun, the list goes on. Although, most of my favorite NES games did make the list (SMB, SMB3, Contra, punch out, mega man 2).

Another point to be made...its hard to argue that SMB was more fun to play than SMB3. Most people of the NES generation will tell you that SMB3 was a lot more fun...it just had so much more going for it. But SMB was basically what started it all (and no, dont give me any of the pong theory). IGN sums it up perfectly: Super Mario Brothers is gaming.

In regards to point number 1.

You fail.
DKR was not by any means an amazing racing game. It was almost a carbon copy of Mario Kart's gameplay with Hovercrafts and Airplanes thrown into the mix. Come up with some crappy, no-named characters, a stupid boss, and a collectible item (BALLOONS? WTF!) and you have a formula for a cart racer. Oh wait, Crash Bandicoot did that too? FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, CONKER THE SQUIRREL WAS A "CUTE" CHARACTER IN THIS GAME! Don't forget Pipsy! and then there was that... turtle thing.. and the frog that became a rooster... and... ummm....

2. Semi- Fail. God of War should not have been on this list at all. It's not fun. It's not original. Devil May Cry anyone? That's a good series. Dante > Kratos.

3. I don't know what to think about this. Personally, I'm not a fan of the first LoZ. It feels slow and not very smooth. It seems like it's just me though.

4. Grim Fandango, along with Day of The Tentacle and Maniac Mansion, completely owns everyone. By not knowing what this game is, you have lost all rights to give commentary on it.

5. Majora's Mask isn't over-rated. Everyone gives it the credit it earned. THey will all say it was a good game, but it paled in comparison to OoT. That's truth. Comparing its rating to something like FF7 is lunacy. I know you don't like 3d Zelda games, so I won't harass you much about it. I'm just saying, I think Majora's Mask was great. It just could have been better.

6. Metroid Prime was awesome. It was important because it completely revived a series that many gamers valued. Also, the gameplay was really top-notch. Last two boss fights = EPIC. Meta-Ridley and Metroid Prime were both AMAZING.

7. Chrono Trigger is the greatest RPG for the SNES, if not the greatest of all time. If I had my way, it'd be in top 5. I agree with you here Roggie. Here's a cookie.

8. Gimme the cookie back. here's why.
a. All caps. My eyes are bleeding.
b. RE4 was top tier. It had the perfect mix of horror, shock, and action. Never have I been so terrified by the sound of a chainsaw. If you played all the way through this game (I have 4 times.) then you'll see what I'm talking about. Anyone that doesn't think this game deserves a good rating hasn't actually played it, or they need to go give it a second chance.

9. If it's so bad, why did you play for 5 hours? I know it's really hyped, but HL2 deserved almost all of it. An awesome (AWESOME!) story which continues into episode 1,2 and soon to be 3. Imaginitive weapons: the striker with energy projectile launcher, the heated bolt crossbow, the gravity gun, the BLUE gravity gun. Atmosphere: The big brother like aspects of city 17, the opression by the combine, ant lions, The G-Man, and lastly.... Ravenholm. "We don't go to Ravenholm." Get the orange box everyone. Best value in gaming out there.

10. I really liked that game...
