I can tell you one problem with vista is that it is going to have a bazillion versions (hows that for a Rorgy-esque exageration?).

The different version are to allow the greatest possibility of functionality and quickness to the user. The average PC user should not need all the bells and whistles of the business edition. It'll only make their pc run slower because of too much crap running in the background that'll never get used. I think Microsoft's intentions were good but you are correct, 6 different versions is a bit too much.

I'm beta testing Vista right now. It's pretty, but nothing near complete.

When it's in beta 2, like it is now, Microsoft usually opens it up for users to download and try it out.

If you look at the minimum requirements..a 1 GHz cpu is all that's needed. the stripped down verion of vista doesn't even need an uber facny video card. Just one that can handle directx 9.

I suppose I could partition my laptop and dual boot it but I don't want to take the chance of a full format just to fix something. If I'm gonna dual boot again it might be with Linux to see if I can get better with it.
