I got a new router (dlink dir 655) and we got this internet to your tv thingy that connects to the interet via a linksys game adapter. The problem I am having is connecting to other people's room on xbox live because I can not connect to xbox live via the test your xbox live connection test under the network settings on the xbox.
When trying to connect to xbox live. My xbox thinks it is connected to the linksys game adapter and tries to connect to the internet through that. However, my xbox is wired directly to my router and the game adapter is attached to my family room tv. I am trying to figure out how to disable the xbox from attempting to connect through the internet through the game adapter without turning off the game adapter.
I also do not understand how the xbox is connecting to the game adapter when the game adapter is wirelessly connected to the router and the xbox is wired to the router.

I looked up your router. First thing is it's not certified to work with XBox live but that doesn't mean it won't. It just might take a little extra work. I'm at a loss as to why the xbox would be trying to connect through the game adapter to the internet if it is wired directly to the router. Do you have a wireless adapter plugged into the xbox still? Something to try is setting a static IP address for the xbox then place it in the DMZ of the router. That should give the xbox full access to the internet without the extra firewall and filtering rules of the router. If that doesn't work then you may need to forward some ports. Check out portforward.com for the settings for your router. I've provided the link directly to the xbox live for the 360. You'll need to enter the static IP address of the xbox at the top of the page. Hopefully one of these solutions will get you online and working. If it's a NAT issue, try turning off the stateful packet inspection to see if that helps.

Here is what I have tried so far:
1. I assigned my xbox a specific IP address. It is technically not a static ip as it still requests one via DHCP but it gets the same one everytime. I took this ip and forwarded the recommended ports. Still connected to the adapter.
2. Leaving the settings as in step one I put the xbox in the DMZ. Still did not connect.
3. I wanted to make sure that it was the game adapter so I unplugged it and tried to connect online. The symbol for network changed to an ethernet cable instead of the ascending bars used to represent a wireless connection. The xbox immediatly connected to xbox live.
The game adapter is the culprit. As most of the routers I've had were not xbox live compatible yet I got them to work, even this one without the game adapter plugged in. I am going to try and play around with the settings on the router and see if I find something.

Try logging into the game adapter from a PC and see if there is a setting for connecting to an xbox. Game adapter are nothing more than a wireless bridge. Anyway, some game adapters can be controlled directly by the xbox, as was the case for the dlink one I have. I think the xbox is detecting the gaming adapter on the network so it's trying to route the connection through it.
Other than that I'm at a loss. It shouldn't try to connect to the gaming adapter if it's not directly connected to the xbox.
