Well folks, another year has come and gone (although it's not technically gone until Jan 1, 2009). I thought I'd take some time to look back at this year's worth of activity for TDC.
Near the end of 2007 Halo 3 launched to much accolade. It was thought to be the rejuvenation for the clan. There was much activity in the beginning of 2008 due to the game. We had multiple threads and posts about the good and bad of the game. What people would like to see added to Halo 3 and the numerous threads for the Bungie weekly updates for the game.
Bungie tried to make the game better throughout the year. They release more maps in the Heroic and Legendary maps packs. They gave us Chill Out for free and fixed the melee system. The one thing that was probably the most requested fix of all was to return the Battle Rifle to its Halo 2 glory. Bungie refused to deliver on that.
In all, TDC thrived for a bit on the release of Halo 3. We had some long time members return to the clan to join in on the fun. Zangief was aggressive with the inner clan contests and started running a game battles Halo 3 team. The game battles team was relatively competitive and almost made it into the finals for the spring season. Nobody started up the screen-shot of the month contest again. Unfortunately, real life interrupted the resurgence of TDC to its former Halo 2 glory days.
As the clan members grew older, people graduated from high school, started college, got married (Zangief), got girlfriends and/or jobs, and joined the Army to serve their country (Defcon and Epic Fuzz). While none of those happenings are in any way shape or form bad, they did have an impact on clan activity as a whole.
We picked some activity in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare around about the same time as the Halo 3 activity was going on. We picked up some new clan members in the form of G-Squad from COD 4. They were a group of folks that enjoyed playing COD 4 together. I got into some games with them and suggested a TDC and G-Squad merger to benefit both clans. I created a COD board and off TDC went into the realm of another FPS. COD 4 generated some activity for a period of time. We tried running a game battles team but that didn't work out so well. We had a hard time trying to organize a complete team to compete effectively in the game battles realm.
While we had problems become competitive with COD 4, the group remained connected and moved on to CoD: World at War later in the year.
Throughout the year we had a couple other games pop up on the TDC radar. Dead Space was a favorite of Metalix, while others favored Fable 2.
In addition, we added boards for Chromehounds and MMORPGs. WoW(Sexy Goddess, Mind Slaver, and Roggie) seemed to be the MMORPG favorite. Others preferred EVE Online(Epic Fuzz and Spartan Project) or Silk Road (Calico and Hellion) as their game of choice.
November was another month that was expected to add some clan activity. With the release of Gears of War 2, I expected that most clan members that played Gears 1 would pick up Gears 2. Also, CoD: World at War released at the end of November. Neither game really generated any extra activity in the way of new members.
Throughout 2008 numerous XBLA games were released. Castle Crashers was a favorite of Roggie. The game War World generated some posting activity. It was another take on the mech game. It seemed that it would be pretty exciting much like the mechwarrior series for the PC years ago. It was delayed for a long time before finally being released this past fall. The recent release of street fighter 2 turbo hd has caught the attention of Zangief. Given that CapnSpanky was big into street fighter so I'm sure he picked this one up as well.
While not the most active year for TDC, 2008 was a good one in my opinion. We had some good games come out, updates and content additions to some of our favorite games and new XBLA games.
Hopefully 2008 was good to you. Lets all hope that 2009 provides us with some good games, clan activity and prosperity in our personal endeavors.
