don't want to talk about the br. summary, it's different, harder to use, somewhat random, and they don't plan on changing that at all.
cold storage looks good imo though. not like a lockout -> blackout type thing.

There was a huge push by the MLG community (at least the MLGpro.com users) to change the BR in the last couple months. Every other day there was a new thread at MLG to get the community to bug Bungie. Bottom line is exactly what Tyler said, Bungie is not going to change it.

Contrary to this community's belief, I like the new BR better. It makes it to where you need to think about your backup weapon. Back in Halo 2, you never touched another gun.
It was the Pistol reborn in Halo 2, and I started to hate it near the end of the game. It's why I like Halo 3 so much better. One weapon doesn't rule them all.

The reason you hate it Roggie, is the reason I love it.
So much versatility with a single weapon, no way you could go wrong.

Not even the fact that it was versatile, because I would have loved it just the same even without the weapon glitches that made it so strong in close range combat. (Even though, it would have still have been extremely effective, but not as effective.)
A BR battle should not be, I had first shot, but my bullets strayed off course randomly more than yours so you win.
H3 is good enough for me, but there's a lot of room for improvement.
Oh, also I think you exaggerated a little on the never having to rely on a backup weapon. People would always pickup the sword, plasma pistol, rockets, either sniper, shotgun (lan only) or a smg + plasma rifle / smg + magnum. That's not a bad array of weapons at all (even though some of those eventually got removed from MLG in the later stages) The BR was strong enough though that it kept the game at a balance, and you could effectively use it to fend off any of those weapons with ease if you were skilled enough. That is why I loved it.

An improved BR would no doubt make competitive play better. However, I really dislike the manner in which the MLG community has been behaving lately, especially after the latest bungie weekly. That last several days all of the "most popular threads" at mlgpro.com have been bitch fests about the BR and their broken system. I have lost a lot of respect for their forum users (although in their own degree, they are just as immature and annoying as b.net users). Just endless bitching and hypocrisy, its really really lame.
Plus the bottom line remains that in the MLG system, team work and strategy will provide you with more success that individual BR skill. At the higher levels of competition, everyone has a good BR. And if the BR was changed to be less random, the curve would just shift up. Everyone would get a little better, thus the competitive field remains as is. Now that whole field would distance itself from the noobs, but seriously, big deal there.

Just play Halo CE, I've been doing that a lot lately. =) How I would love to. Whenever I get even enough for 2v2 at a friends house, we always play Halo 1. So much fun, especially since my friends aren't very good anymore so I rack up kills.

I wish that people would stop bitching about the BR being bad because it not being as powerful as it used to opens other weapons to be used more now (i probably am being hypocritical right now because i'm sure i complained). While the power weapons are pretty hard to beat now, grenade whoring will do it's job. I do like the new BR and i also like the old BR. They both have pros and cons that are very different than the other, so i don't think the uniqueness of the H3 BR should be changed.

It's not the fact the BR is weaker. It's the fact that it's random. Read the latest weekly if you haven't, theres a link to it in the OP. Basically, the burst will stray randomly within a certain margin. While the margin is significantly small, it still matters a lot when it comes to BR fights, especially at mid and long range. Also, there is other problems with it. Such as - on XBL off-host sometimes your bullets won't register. You will fire X amount of times, and after you're done you can see with your own eyes you will sometimes (somewhat often actually) get a bullet or two put back in your BR. Meaning, you told the host you fired, the host said no you didn't, and therefore your shot didn't count and you get it back.
Throw a faulty (netcode?) with the randomness of the spread and it makes for frustrating gameplay at times. It also closes the skill gap. Yeah, you won't notice much with the pro's (they LAN anyways) but you can't go wrong with increasing the skill gap imo.
The way most are going about trying to get it "fixed" is indeed childish and ridiculous, but I still feel something should be done to try to improve it (preferably a fix in the dropping bullets department. LANs I really have no complaints about.)
PS. Halo LANs are great. I play Halo CE/2/3 LANs at least once a week, usually a lot more.

My friend Alex (Dieneses) moved into my house last week. He brought his 360. Perma Ad-hoc Lan is in the works. It's a wonderful thing to have Halo and LAN at the same time.
