I know some people are having trouble getting the java applet to load. It should run on everyone's computer as long as java is enabled. So sorry to say if it isn't working for you it is indeed your problem, there is nothing for me to fix because it works for the majority of people. But, let me walk through it and we will see what the problem is.
Login Process
Once you press "Click Here to launch the java applet", a new page will open with the login screen. The purpose of this screen is to allow to you have a nickname when you enter our channel. It also automatically connects you to our channel and server. You will notice that if you click advanced settings you can see where that info is specified. THERE IS NO NEED TO CHANGE ANYTHING. All you need to enter is you desired nickname and you are set. Then click connect and and a new window will pop up with the java applet. You can then close the login window.
Loading Java Applet
I am guessing that this is where the problems lie. Once you click connect and the new applet window pops up, just be patient and it should load. If its just not loading, then here are a few things you might want to try:
1. Make sure your browser is updated. I don't think there are any problems with IE, but I know there were issues with older versions of Firefox. Make sure you have upgraded to at least Firefox v 1.5. [link]
2. Make sure you have java installed. You can visit Sun Java's website and download their latest installer. [link]
So if you do all that, it should work. One other thing to try (and I have no idea why this works) if you are stuck with the applet taking forever to load. Once it pops up, click in the middle of it. I have done that a few times and it caused it to load (you can see the progress by looking at the text in the bottom left, it should be telling you the progress).
If you are still can't get it to work, explain what the problem is and I will see if I can help. Descriptions of errors (if any) and screenshots will help.
Also, you can use a dedicated IRC client to connect and you won't even have to mess with my java applet if you don't want. See the chat page on the main site for a few links to progams. Once you have downloaded and installed them, all you have to do is enter the server and channel name and you are good to go.
The whole purpose of the java applet is so that you don't have to install yet another chat client on your computer, plus its accessable from anywhere by just visiting our site.
