Reported today on MLGPro.com: Ever since the release of Halo 2, it’s been a dream of ours to have MLG settings incorporated into Matchmaking. There just isn’t anyone out there who loves to play Halo as much as the MLG staff and our community, and seeing MLG inside the game has always been one of the things we hoped for most.
So you can understand how excited we are to see that dream come true: In just a few weeks, Bungie will be launching a new MLG Playlist in Halo 3, replacing the existing Team Hardcore Playlist.
This is a great testament to the growing importance of competitive gaming. Now, millions of Halo 3 players worldwide will be able to play like the pros--using the same maps and settings that we use on the MLG Pro Circuit. This means competitive gaming standards will reach a much broader audience than ever before.READ FULL ARTICLE HEREIn my opinion, this is huge. I am an MLG fan, but not a fanboy. I am not so snobbish or lame that I can't enjoy bungie's version of matchmaking games. But, I do like the competitiveness that you experience by playing "MLG customs", and now that will be available all the time via the new MLG playlist. Hardcore kind of half-assed it, and now the package will be that much better with true MLG settings. Lets face it, the MLG custom maps and settings are much more balanced than the default ones. Not an MLG fan? Don't worry. As is evident by the numbers we see when trying to find games in the various mm playlists, Team Slayer and Social Slayer are by far and away the most played, with Team Hardcore being on the low end. My guess is that there will be an increase in players when Hardcore officially switches to MLG, but not a whole lot. The truth is that most people still enjoy default settings because most people, in the end, suck. I can just see Roggie now..."I hate MLG, I get so mad I throw my controller across the room...". But now that I have said that, he will be of the opposite opinion, but wait, maybe he'll agree because I said he wouldn't, this could go on and on.

I think they are handling griffball perfectly...its a novelty if it weren't for the double experience, people lose interest really fast.
Some people over at the MLG forums are predicting the playlist to have a population of 20k - 50k (that a big range, btw). On average, I doubt it goes over 10k. Right now its about 4-5k.

Bleh.. the H3 battle rifle is still the H3 battle rifle. I'll give this one a chance though, if it's any good maybe i can balance that and halo 2.

This could be good for us. MLG customs was always the heart and soul of TDC. I think a good playlist from MLG might help with the issues people have with Halo 3.

I disagree, Rick. MLG is trying to turn Halo 3 into H2, but the game is so different that it doesn't work.

Lol, that is so lame Roggie. Halo 3 has provided so much more versatility for MLG its insane. The possibilities are endless with Forge. New stuff like equipment was taken out of MLG because it does not fit into a balanced and competitive style of play. And I agree, the bubble shield just doesn't have a place in games where people are truly trying to be competitive. That doesn't mean it has no place at all. I enjoy a good balance of different kinds of games: hardcore MLG style games, competitive bungie style (default) as the whole array of new Halo 3 gadgets are used (new weapons, equip, etc), and frivolous games like rocket race, sandtrap race, griffball and the like.
The latest fad started by Brandon and Tyler that Halo 2 is where its at is pure hypocrisy, and it makes me laugh every time I read something they post about it. I agree with them on one point: it can still be fun to play Halo 2. Its true, no doubt. But I disagree completely with their reasoning as to why. To all of the reasons they have listed, they have said the complete opposite for years on end. They are doing this for the same reason they have always done things around here: to try to be different for the purpose of making themselves feel superior. But what they are doing is harmless, and within a matter of weeks will be old news. I do however have a suggestion for both of them as to how they could make their Halo 2 efforts not in vein. I will send you guys PM's with my thoughts.
Anyways, obviously I disagree with you Roggie, and I am 100% for this MLG playlist. I believe that MLG is accomplishing their goal of providing a competitive setup for professional play with their Halo 3 approach, much better than in Halo 2 I might add. Do not forget, their purpose is not for you, Roggie, to have fun, but to promote their product, which is professional gaming.

I'm not trying to be superior over anyone, and I don't think Brandon is either? Not sure, I guess we'll talk about each others feelings and get back to you on that. No but seriously, if that's how it looks then I'm sorry. If I knew trying to get some activity was going to be looked at as a joke by the overlord then I wouldn't have even tried. Anyways, I look forward to your PM I guess? Just to let you know, the only way I'll stop playing Halo 2 is if: 1) I have absolutely nobody to play with - I just need one person. 2) TDC gets active[in my eyes] in Halo 3. 3) The MLG gametypes in Halo 3 are actually fun. (Tough chance in my opinion, Bungie made it hard on them this time. No good maps.) Now, on-topic: I need to look at the MLG rules and such a little bit more. Has anyone played an MLG custom here? How was it?

Yes I do think MLG games are fun. You have to remember what their purpose is though, like I said above, it is to provide a balanced and competitive atmosphere for professional gaming. That said, its probably exactly what you expect: BR no radar. What do I enjoy? I enjoy games where spots are being called out, where you work as a team to get to just 1 kill. I enjoy the fast pace, the custom power ups, the balanced weapon placements. I understand the initial no maps argument, but I believe forge throws that all out the window. Guardian is re-vamped with the spawns, weapon placements, and weapon types (obviously you won't see some clown rushing to bottom middle to grab a gravity hammer). Construct has a whole different feel to it. I think the Pit is a rad map no matter what and the possibilities are endless on Foundry (i.e. Onslaught and Stockpile).
I am not all of a sudden mister MLG or anything, I just think that for their purpose, they have set things up really well.

If we can get enough people to fill customs in Halo 3 like the old days of Halo 2 I'd cry in joy. Seriously, that is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. I still think Halo 2 was the better made game, but that doesn't mean I think Halo 3 is unplayable. MLG + TDC + Any Halo = I'll be there. Let me know. Although, I don't think we have the amount of members to make it a routine thing, so bleh. Oh, and I stress the atmosphere part. I want it to feel competitive, not be a bunch of pointless laughing/giggling/screaming like a bunch of little girls at Six Flags for the first time. If the old Halo 2 atmosphere can be created, count me in. If it's going to be like that clan match vs the junkies, no thank you.

You caught me Jeremy. Feeling superior on a forum is what makes me hot. gg on that find. I also don't see how our efforts are in vein. The last two days we've been on, we've had more people playing at one time than I saw on Halo 3.

I play Halo 3 almost everyday and the custom games are still insanely fun as compared to Halo 2. I will admit that i do miss Warlock flag but it's not enough to go back and suffer through Halo 2 again. Also i have no idea what you guys are talking about there being nobody on, ask Zangief the second i sign online i automatically start a custom game and invite everybody and fill up a room hastily. Just try joining in from time to time.
