QUOTE "Some changes are afoot in our plan for the next batch of DLC. Although the next group of three maps is nearing some semblance of completion (don’t get too excited by that fact, since there’s still oodles of polish and testing to be done before they’re ready for the mainstream. But there has been a significant change since we last mentioned ‘em."
Changes you say? Let's read on a little.
QUOTE "One of the maps, actually one of Luke and I’s favorites, the oft-mentioned “Purple Reign” is being held back after class, so to speak and will not make it into the next DLC pack. Booo! That’s the bad news. The good news is that it’s being replaced by something potentially much more exciting – a map we haven’t really spoken about because it was a ways behind."
Purple Reign, I'm pretty sure is either a remake of Midship or Gemini (or maybe Colossus I think it was called) or a combination of the afore-mentioned bright, shiny and well - purple maps. It's a shame it's being held back, but let's read on some more.
EDIT: Another point: If Bungie had just said "Purple Reign won't be in the next batch of DLC" then people would be pissed. Purple Reign is meant to be a small map that works well for competitive play... So instead, maybe they thought "if we announce another small map... then it'll be ok".
QUOTE "But things change. That map’s progress accelerated as Purple’s slowed a little. As we looked at the schedule it became apparent that we could probably leapfrog one to the advantage of the other. Now, I can’t tell you much more about this replacement map, beyond the horrible codename I just made up, “Moonlight Sonata” but I can tell you that it will be universally adored. Of that there is no doubt. Usually I am in the business of soft-selling new maps in case folks have adverse reactions to ‘em “it’s too big!” or “it’s not symmetrical” or “where’s XXXinsert fave map hereXXX” but this time, confidence is high. It will be beloved."
The part, "where's XXXinsert fave map hereXXX". I think it's a hint. The most played Map on Halo 2 in Custom Games AND Matchmaking, was Lockout. Therefore it was the favourite (as far as the majority goes).
Now here comes the interesting stuff.
QUOTE "Luke and I have been playing it a lot recently as Luke struggles with his hopeless inability to jump,"
Lockout required that one be able to jump, there were little trick jumps all over that damn place. Mid to Snipe ramp, Top lift to elbow... BR 2 to Sword... etc. etc. need I go on?
QUOTE "while I wrestle with my colossal failure to point the reticule at opponents."
Lockout was one of those Maps were the better team (the ones who could, "point the reticule at opponents") would always win, another hint I think.
QUOTE "Yesterday I beat him fairly soundly on that map using a technique I think of as a carrot-stick approach. I will lure him towards me and he won’t realize that the path to me is littered with fusion cores. He gets too close and I take a safe shot at the core, sending him hurtling to whatever hell is reserved for Michigan Wolverines fans (which may simply be a normal game, but with flames on the periphery)."
Anyone remember the Lockout Sniper tower? Fusion cores. Anyone else remember BR 3, BR 1, Library, Snipe 1, Lift 1? Fusion cores.
QUOTE "So during a later one on one deathmatch (it is a relatively small map)"
Lockout was a "relatively small Map".
QUOTE "I dropped a Bubble Shield and backed out of it while simultaneously throwing a plasma nade (the old, “Splosion Igloo” trick) but I failed hard. The nade came out of my grasp, slid on the surface of the shield and stuck to my face. Luke of course tried to make a clip so that he could laugh and touch himself – but as he was watching back the film, I saw his new fear-driven technique. He was systematically destroying every fusion core on the map to stop me from using them against him."
People used to destroy the fusion cores on Lockout as they moved around, to stop them from getting assploded.
QUOTE He also leaves near-empty weapons lying around for me to pick up. His favorite trick is to leave one round in a Carbine. In many ways, he is worse than Hitler.*
There was (as far as I can remember) at least 1 Carbine on Lockout.
So there you have it. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I believe I am onto something here.
That is not my work. It is the work of someone at AoR, posted on their forums.
And does anyone get the cheap shot at Michigan fans?

Boo.
They will probably cost money? and it's Halo 3.
and the melee was a big fackmather mistake on Bungie's part. So was a lot of the game. In fact...the game was. They're dead to me.

Well, I thought of Lockout as well, but some of the points made in your friend's post were just stupid.
Case in point? "I struggle with my massive failure to point my reticle at targets."
IIRC, Halo 1-3 are FPS games. In FPS games, the ENTIRE strategy of killing someone, is pointing your reticle at someone and pulling the trigger. In no way does that scream Lockout.
Though, I also want it to be Lockout... very very badly. If they're trying to get an MLG endorsement, Lockout and Midship would be their best choices.

I may. But I have a feeling it's still gonna suck in comparison to Halo 2's melee. I'll take host melee over shitty melee system anyday.

If they fix the melee i'll give the game another shot. not really. Ha, so true. CoD4 and pSRO are both better than any fixed version of Halo 3.

I do hope they make lockout. AND it's also awesome that they're trying to fix the melee. Even if the new maps don't consist lockout i won't care very much, new maps are fun!
