Brandon, throwing the ball without using your thumb doesn't count. He's talking a real hook, as in locking your wrist and having the ball snap back at the end of the lane.

Oh yeah, Brandon, if you use a real ball the way you throw the plastic ball, you'll be shooting a lot of 3 counts. I can literally picture your shot in my head without ever seeing it. Wide hook, slower throw, crazy revs, little control.

Wide hook, yes.
Slow, yes. Proves for better curves right into the pocket.
Little control, no. Once I get the lane, and how it was waxed, down, I'm usually fine.

well if brandon were to properly learn to bowl using a hook and a good non plastic ball he would actually be getting 280+

280+ Yeah, I'm not pro.
I don't think there is anyone who consistently gets 280+ in our league.

Peter, if you're averaging 273, get the hell off the house shot. Join a PBA Experience tour. They use the PBA oil layouts and give you a hella more challenge.
Plus, I'm throwing the BS flag on averaging a 273. You're throwing an 800 every night? Bullshit.
@ Doug: It makes a BIG difference if you use your thumb or not. Much more control. Trust me on this one.
Brandon, if you learn to throw a hook with your thumb, you'll get MUCH better results.
And how heavy is the ball? 12-13 pounds? Use a 15 or 16 pound ball.
Oh yeah, I'm getting the Twisted Fury. I threw my dad's tonight, and with a span I could barely hold the ball with and finger and thumb holes about 2 times bigger than mine, I still managed to shoot 187.

@ Peter: Wait, you could be bowling 273. You bowling in Canada? They've got a different system completely.
Put it at this. If you're bowling 273, why aren't you going to the PBA Open in Albuquerque this year? Or Las Vegas last year? I know a few people who average around 245 (best bowlers in my city, and I can't imagine anyone being much better who's not bowling in PBA Experience stuff) and they love it.

Roggie what does it matter if you use your thumb or not if your good without it. I'm saying if it aint broke why fix it? and same with the ball weight isnt it all just preference?

Roggie... handcap? yah the league i bowl in uses a handcap... and yah some of my friends i bowl with DID go to vegas.. and the house oil looks like a flippen xmas tree when u actually see the pattern

Peter, nobody believes you. You do not average a 273. I thought maybe you would have grown out of the urge to try to impress us with BS while you been gone.
