There is an ongoing 2v2 rivalry between us four BFME2 players. The teams are Zangief and Mershmellow vs Big Spene and Twinkie. A while back when I played the xbox 360 version of BFME2, there was best of 3 2v2 match in which Big Spene and Twinkie took care of business pretty easily, beating us 2 games in a row with ease. Now the tables have turned. I have the PC version and am no noob. Combined with the Captain of Gondor (mershmellow, currently ranked 38 in the world), we are a force to be reckoned with.
Our latest 2v2 was last night and as expected, Zangief and Mershmellow made quick work of the Spencers. Lets take a while to anylyze the games.
Game 1: Tower Hills
Big Spene = Men of the West
Twinkie = Isenguard
Mershmellow = Men of the West
Zangief = Elves
I don't have a replay so I will just have to explain how it went, and that is really easy: complete domination. Sometimes I don't know what people are thinking, case in point the beginning of this game. Team Spencer rushed mershmellow. That was not smart. Mershmellow is certainly good enough to fend them off by himself. Combine that with a Zangief counter attack on Twinkie and the advantage goes to Mershmellow and Zangief. Twinkie's base was empty and so I was able to destroy furnaces and his warg pit early, effectivly crippling him the rest of the game.
He would rebuild it, but he never had enough manpower to effectively harass my economy. That is a death wish against elves because it allows the eagle to come out, and when that happens, it is pretty much gg. So my combination of Glorfindel, Haldir, archers with silverthorn arrows and an eagle made easy work of that isenguard base.
Mershmellow and big spene were engaged in a more balanced struggle. For some reason Big Spene claims that he could have taken down mershmellow. But right as big spene sends aragorn to mersmellows base, he dies, and then my army turn on big spene. So now its 2 v 1 (I had just defeated twinkie) and big spene is without his most valuable hero. Mershmellow and I descend upon big spene, and I use my eagle summon to finish things off. With 3 eagles flying around there is not much you can do.
Game 2: Minhiriath
Big Spene = Men of the West
Twinkie = Isenguard
Mershmellow = Men of the West
Zangief = Elves
Twinkie started as random but ended up as his usual Isenguard. I have screens for this game so lets go ahead and take a look at those.
To start things twinkie decided to go for the lookout tower (top) with urukai, thus letting me control the outpost (bottom) and giving me an economy boost. I went pikes first for fear of the warg or knight rush.
However big spene made a nice move by bringing his knights down to detroy it. I sent my pikes after him, he proceeded to make a clown move my trying to ride over them, killing all but 3.
In the mean time Mershmellow is raiding big spene's base with two groups of knights against big spenes one group. He was able to do some good damage and retreat.
Twinkie was insistent on making lots of pikes, probably for fear of the mershmellow rush. However I was the one close to him so my archers took care of them. I was able to take down three of twinkie's furnaces with just Haladir and an archer group, thus putting him on the defensive.
Shortly after there is an ill-advised attack on mershmellows base. 4 pikes and 1 urukai group cant do much against 2 groups of knights, rangers, soldiers, and Boromir.
At one point I made a big mistake and lost track of Haladir, Twinkie was able to take him down. Clown move on my part.
Right after that I was in a bit of trouble as I was double teamed by the spencers, they made a successful raid at my base, taking down a few mallorn trees and damaging my barracks.
However this lead perhaps the most foolish move of the night committed by Big Spene. For some reason he though Boromir could take Glorfindel 1v1. After he realised that was dumb, he tried to run away, which is equally dumb. It makes Glorfindel's job easy as he can just hit Boromir in the back because he is faster. Just be glad I didn't have his Blade of Purity, it would have been over a lot sooner.
So at this point we have reached mid game and most of the heroes are out. I have Glorfindel, Haladir, and an eagle, big spene and mershmellow have aragorn and boromir dancing around, and Twinkie wised up and got Lurtz and Saruman. He is an example of how to get rid of Lurtz: just send an eagle after him. Notice Lurtz is helpless as the eagle knocks him around.
Big Spene thought he could get rid of Aragorn with non upgraded rangers and knights. But mershmellow is ready, he turned on his blademaster to make quick work of the horses, and dropped Tom Bombadil to get rid of the rangers. Pwned.
At this point we are making our final assault on Twinkie. He puts of a good fight, shooting Saruman's fireball at me and then dropping the wildmen of dunland. But alas my silverthorn arrows are too much. Combine that with the sneak attack my mershmellow from behind and this was the end of Twinkie.
Note that Mershmellow knows how to take down aragorn: fire arrows and pikes.
Boromir and Glorfindel Round 2, but this time there is an army behind Glorfindel meaning the beginning of the end for Big Spene. He did make a nice move by dropping the arrow volley on my archers.
To end the game, mershmellow's aragorn, my glorfindel, and the eagle summon took care of his fortress.
GAME OVER, really good.
