I think the best way to do it is: On the day of the tournament, have all the players pick numbers, and i or someone else can use the computer and pick randomly two numbers per team. And who ever your number is called with, that is your partner. WE can redo it, if it turns out unfair.

I think you should just pick your teams from whoever is there on the day of the tournament. [if it is one day] Unfair should not be an issue because most of us are about matched skill wise. Even if some don't see it that way, it just a tournament for fun so win lose it doesn't really matter.

I am going with pick your teams if we do a doubles tournament. Doubles week (which was a lot of fun btw) it was necessary to chose random teams because we played so many games.
