ok recently my computer has slown down to a crawl, a verrryyy slow crawl... i happened over the course of one day, im just goin through the forums and then i had to go, so i put the computer on standby.
when i returned i signed back in and all was fine for about 5 mins, then boom!. it just practically stopped, everything works, but it takes like 2-5 mins just to open a program
i dont know if it is caused by a virus, i checked and i have one virus, although it has about 5 signatures, and my Anti-Virus cant delete it
and even if it is the virus, it has been there for weeks..
any suggestions?

restart the computer! Its rule #1 in pc trouble shooting. May be a memory leak... any recommendations from someone of higher qualification? Nate perhaps?

well my first suggestion is to defrag your computer. then if that doesnt work, theres a feature on most newer model computers called "system recovery" it says anything you have created will be deleted but when I did that with my comp that wasnt the case, try doing that. also, a virus can sometime take weeks, even months to do any real damage to anyones comp.. just depends on the virus's programming and its nature. so it could very well be the virus starting to take effect on your system... or it could be spyware... it could be a number of things.. but try thbose two things first before you do anything else.

spanky trust me, ive restarted it... i dont think sys recov or defrag will help, i need to find a way to rid myself of this virus, as my anti virus cant delete it
=EDIT=
ok i went in and did some manual removing of files, i restarted the cpu and it did a disk check... for the first time ever on this CPU and now, it seems ok
Hurray!

well, system recovery will probably help, im tellin ya. because if it is the virus, and its corrupted key compnets of the computer, sys rec will restore those key componets, even if you do get rid of the virus it would prolly be a good idea to do it anyways.
or as a last resort you can call *bleh* tech support and find out what to do from there.

OK make sure you check for spyware. Goto www.spybot.com and download the program. It'll probably find alot of spyware cookies. Also update your antivirus and report the virus that it couldn't delete to them so they can research how to get rid of it.
