I can watch the already existing videos over and over. But, I'm curious to know when and if anybody is making a new one soon? Also, what kind of video capture devices/cards do you guys use cause I want to get one. Some things just have to be recorded that aren't.

Mercenary and I use the Pinnacle Studios USB capture box. It comes with Pinnacle Studios 9 or you can just use windows movie maker to finish the montage after it's captured. Check out Tiger Direct under the video capture section for all the different one's they carry. You can also look the up at Pricewatch. Of course there are internal ones and maybe one that's better but we don't have any problems with our external one. I even use it to make DVD's off of the TIVO.

sweet man thanks. i'll look into it.
=edit=
i have a quick question tho. how does it hook up to the device for capturing to be enabled? does it have anything to do with the RCA jacks, cause i can't think of how it would hook up to the xbox to record.

You plug the RCA jacks from the xbox into the INPUT side of the capture device then run another set of RCA's from the OUTPUT side to the TV. If you have an external box then the capture device will hook to the computer via USB or Firewire. An internal one would use a PCI slot and maybe have some front controls.
Another way to hook it up if you have the Hi Definition adapter for the xbox is through the S-Video cable and the audio RCA jacks. Just follow the same procedures as above but for the video plug the S-Video cable into the INPUT and the red and white audio RCA's into the corresponding jacks. Then run an S-Video cable to the TV from the output side and the corresponding red and white audio cables to the back of the TV. This method will give you a better picture but will cost you the $20 plus tax if you dont have the Hi-Def adapter for the xbox.
One last thing, when we capture the video with our external box two things must happen:
1. The usb cable must be connected to the computer at all times when you have it setup to record video. If you unplug the usb from the computer you will not be able to see the xbox output unless you hook the xbox directly to the tv again. Basically, there's not pass through function like a vcr would have.
2. The picture is a little fuzzy when it is set-up for recording. I haven't figured out why yet but I think it has something to do with the way the box outputs to the TV. The captured video is not fuzzy at all though. The fuzziness doesn't hinder play...just a little annoying at times.
Hope all this helps

i must warn you, though, when i actually do get one and attempt making videos, i will have more questions. this is do to the fact that, as with every piece of new technology to find its way into this house, problems ALWAYS occur. most are fixable, however issues arise nonetheless.

The box you posted doesn't have any outputs that will allow the video to be displayed. It will work if you run a splitter cable from the video and audio connectors so you can still see when you are playing. This will require 3 Y-adapter cables (1 female to 2 females) and 2 more audio/video RCA cables. They do not have to be gold plated. Here's a pinnacle box that refurbished. Don't be afraid to by a refurbished box. It's usually an open box deal or someone used it once and couldn't get it to work so they sent it back. It's only $49.00 and it comes with the video editing software. Like I said before, I use this exact box for montages and authoring DVD's from the TIVO.

yea i didn't think that would work cause i couldn't see any outputs. so yea i'll shoot for the pinnacle that you recommend. thanks so much. especially for taking the time to help, let alone helping.
=edit=
and sorry, one more thing that just came to mind. what's with the S-video slot. looks extremely familiar, but i can't see how that ties in to any functions on the xbox. liike, i don't see where an S-video cable would go. i thought about the possibility that it wasn't involved, but i just wanna make sure.

Glad to help ;D If you get the high definition kit for the xbox it'll give you the s-video option. The standard xbox connection only has rca jacks. Like I said before you don't have to go with the pinnacle box but you would have to buy alot of extra cables. With the pinnacle box you only need to pick up an extra audio/video cable. You can use the s-video out to return the signal from the pinnacle box to the t.v. This will give you a better picture and you would only need a set of audio rca cables for the sound. Here's some sample set-ups: Option 1Option 2Option 3Option 4It's up to you how to configure it. =Edit= The Hi-Def box will only work with a Hi-Def T.V. I thought there was only 1 adapter for better A/V signals but apparently there's two. The one needed for the S-Video output is the Advanced AV pack. See below for links to some places that sell it. On options 3 & 4 just insert the Advanced AV adapter instead of the High Def box. Sorry for the confusion.

wow you took the time to draw those for me? haha dude thanks. and i'm sure you're glad to hear that i UNDERSTAND those diagrams as well.
i presume that one of the two hi-def adapters' setup is better. and those are only $20 (roughly) you say? but yea, i talked to my mom and it's a go for the refurbished pinnacle. THANK YOU SO F***ING MUCH! haha
i wonder, does your occupation involve anything related to electronics like this? cause you can answer any questions, it seems.

Actually I fix airplanes for the Air Force for a living but I enjoy working on computers and such. It's really a hobby and yes I am glad you understand the drawings. After researching the Hi-Def box I noticed that it's actually the Advanced AV pack that you want. Here's some places that are selling it. Keep in mind that if it's in-stock online that doesn't mean it's in-stock in the store. Circuit CityBest BuyWalmart
