Try cleaning the disk and the cd drive of the xbox. You can get a cd drive cleaner from radio shack or some other electronics store. I use windex on the cds.

Yes you can open the xbox and clean it. You'll need some torque bit screwdrivers and a phillips screwdriver. Please note that opening your xbox voids the warranty. See here for a tutorial on how to open it. Once you have it open you'll need to carefully disassemble the dvd drive and then you can clean the lens with a Q-tip and alcohol (not the drinking kind). I've done this with ours twice. It does helps for a little while. If your having a lot of problems contact xbox support and for a fee they will replace the drive. I think you'll have to send in your xbox though. Another alternative is to get a new xbox or a refurbished one at Game Stop or EB Games. Xbox.com Troubleshooter for disc errors

Wait, before you use windex to clean ur games, let me warn u. Windex can potentially damage cd's!!! Most game manufacturers recommend just wiping the disc with a soft cloth (Damp works well too, just make sure you dry the disk after) Wipe in a clockwise motion and slowly work your way towards the hole on the inside. Make sure there are no smudges/fingerprints/etc. Remember: don't rub to hard or u may scratch your disk. After ur disk is clean, pop i back in and give it another try.

This is true...I've never had a probelm with windex on the discs. It's pretty much alcohol based. But do make sure you wipe in a circular motion.
