From MLGpro.com:
So we just got out of an initial test of the BR versus the Carbine. It’s important for players to know which of these two mid-range weapons will be preferable in certain situations. We’ll have more to come as we test it out in game-situations but here are some vital stats:
Minimum Shots to Kill: Battle Rifle – 4 shot kill (last shot must be a headshot – so three body shots and a headshots or 4 headshots) Carbine – 8 shot kill (last shot must be a headshot)
Number of Body Shots to Kill Battle Rifle – 8 shot kill Carbine – 12 shot kill
Head to Head We lined two players facing each other one with a BR and one with a Carbine to determine which can kill faster when aiming straight at the head and beginning to fire at the same time. The BR wins by a single shot. But don’t be fooled, the Carbine may still be the more useful weapon from up close because the reduction in auto-aim makes a four shot battle rifle kill on a strafing opponent very difficult and the faster firing rate of a carbine will disrupt zoom more effectively.
Its definitly noticable that the BR auto aim has been reduced, close up BR shooting is not the same as in Halo 2. Plus the crosshair is smaller. End result? The BR takes more skill to use in Halo 3 than Halo 2.

Which is extremely good. I love using the Carbine now. It actually feels better than the BR. Then again, I liked the Carbine in H2, but nothing like this one.

I definitly think that the change was for the better. I think I'd pick up the br before the carbine though. But we have only be playing for a few days, we'll see which wins in the long run.

Odds are, BR will win out. Right now, it's all about what feels better, since we haven't developed the polished feel we have with H2.

I always thought BR was 5 shots now.
Carbine = <3.
