It has been leaked that the Halo 3 Co-op will be offline only. apparently Bungie knows that the masses want an online co-op but stated that there could be situations in the game where the player cold be a mile apart so that poses a challenge for them during online play.
To me that seems like a bunch of crap. I'm sure there are other games out there that probably have a similar set-up that have on-line co-op. Gears of War did it and there isn't any problems. I would imagin that if the scenario above could happen online then it should definitely happen offline so what's the difference really? The boxes getting unsync'd during the game play due to the amount of action happening? I guess that's possible but I don't see that as a limiting factor.
What do you think?

what if they make co-op only levels
make a different playlist just for co-op. so that way they can control co-op mode
or co-op missions
i would rather have 1 or 2 levels being co-op then no co-op at all

It probably a time constraint thing. If they had another 6 months or something I'm sure they could make it work. But they have comitted themselves to September 25th.

i read some post on bungie
and basically its because halo3 is going to have the biggest battles with 100's of people fighting
and in co-op if one guy is fighting a fight and a mile away your team mate is fighting another then it becomes to much for a basic internet connection to support
other games worked because the battles weren't that big and because you couldn't be miles away from your team mate... GOW at every check point some thing would happen to block you from going back...like a building would fall or something would break to force you and your team mate to move on with each other. The maps were also really small

You get split up in GoW's campaign multiple times.
I think they are just making excuses.

When you're split up, you aren't very far apart, except maybe one spot.
People would rather play and get split up then have no co-op online.

also in gears i have never seen more than 1 or 2 fights with 10+ enemies
hell i may have never even seen ten enemies on screen just once
and roggie has a good point, you are never far from each other when split up. the farthest you may be from your partner is a couple hundred feet.

I still think it's bull. They knew from the beginning that people would want to play online co-op. They've have since directly after Halo 2's release to figure out a way to make it work but yet Bungie chose to ignore the masses. So what if the maps are smaller! How many people are actually going to play co-op on the local machine. I can say without a doubt that it'll be far less than those who would have played it online. Thanks again Bungie! The only good thing that came out of that article was that there's a possible remake of lockout and some new weapons. =edit= here's the article link...sorry about not posting it before www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=168397

gay. dont make the two players so far apart then. its cooperative for a reason, not split single player campaigns.

A flare? So dumb. For anyone who has read the books, they know that MC's visor darkens to block any brightness out.
and a remake of Lockout. One good thing so far. Almost makes up for a remake of Zanzibr.

This is from Daveastation at teh SOL web site. He found some interesting tid-bits in the article authors blog. Check it out:
I'm still a huge skeptic that it'll be there. They've had 2+ years to make sure it was there and worked well and now near the end they're almost giving the "we're sorry" to us. Some people think that they could possibly patch Halo 3 to add it later but I submit this for consideration; if they could patch it in, why didn't they do that for Halo 1?
If I remember correctly, Bungie said it'll take too much coding for the massive changes to make Halo 1 available on live. One would have to assume that would include online co-op. That makes me believe that it the changes to Halo 3 couldn't be made either.

Bungie is lazy.
They don't listen to the people, they listen to the Bungie forum n00bs, whose opinions are horrible.
