why the eff are you still doing band Rory? because it is the biggest positive influence in my life right now (if i realy narrow it down it is my only positive influence xbox live doesn' really count) because i can only do this until im 21 because i love learning music, and even though it is sometimes stressfull i like teaching it to the other people in my section i dont really expect any of u to understand, but there is no other feeling/adreneline rush in the world that is performing your heart out in front of 1000's of people...there is no greater eupohria than seeing all the hours of hard back breakign work u put in all year pay off in the end. www.allegianceelite.orgwww.dci.orgif u wanna listen to this years show, i posted it in the junkyard under the title..recording...its a very good listen... and www.tapspace.com/plesound.html listen to electric wheelchair there used to be a great site called drumline parking lot but its gone..it was undergoing renovations for about a year then it disapeared i will understand if u dont care

I understand everything you said. I could get on my high horse and lecture you but then I would come across as a jackass. My point was that usually people at your age are trying to move forward with their lives, make plans for the future (i.e. college, looking for jobs they can make a career in). Sorry to say but band isn't a career move Rory. Ok, whoops, deviated a bit and got on my big ole high horse.
All I am saying is that these are things you should be thinking about Rory. Band seems like an activity that you can do while your parents are still providing for you.
Just so I don't shoot myself in the foot, how much of a commitment is band? How often do you have to go to that stuff? Do the jobs that you have had at Walmart/7-11 to work around your band schedule?

I'm going to get on a bigger horse than Jeremy on this one. Your statement about band isn't entirely true Jeremy. There are people that their whole life is performing in bands, and I'm not talking about the pop culture bands. My band teacher in junior high was also in a symphony orchastra as well as his own brass quintet. He made a good living at it and taught for the love of teaching music. My high school instructor was in several orchastras before switching to teaching. I understand where Rory is coming from and I can see your point too. To be good at something, anything whether it be a sport, band or just your job, takes dedication and a willingness to go beyond your comfort zone.
If music is a positive influence for Rory, no one should degrade or belittle him for that. He's taking the opportunity to do something he loves, much like you do by reffing basketball games. Who knows, there may be some college scouting the drum corps shows that might pick Rory up. I know it sounds stupid that band would be scouted but there are band scholarships to colleges and they do recruit, just like sports.
While I agree that my years spent playing inthe band didn't get me anywhere it was fun. Had I gone to college I may have played there too. I agree that it's not the most obvious career path for someone to choose. And it does seem like something that can be doen while his parents support him, but I think that if Rory was out onhis own, he'd still do it. Most people, unless they are really dedicated to music quit after high school.
I say, play until you no longer enjoy or cannot do it anymore Rory. Just make sure it doesn't interfere with major life decisions and your ability to provide for yourself. Now, I've rode my horse hard and it's wet so it time to put it away.
and.........I'm spent

Rory, way to go. I agree with you. Playing music for other people is a Euphoria that cant be described. Every show is different and every show is fun. Al the stress involved just melts aways when everything falls into place. If u like music, pursue it. See how far it takes you.

The reason I come across the way I do towards Rory and this band situation is because i have this notion in my head of how is life is. And frankly, thats a bad way to approach it because I have really have no idea what rory's ambitions are (or if he even has any), exactly what his days are like, how his parents treat him, or any other aspect of his life. Its easy to jump to conclusions and say what someone should do, especially since I followed the oh-so-typical routine of a person after high school: go to college and then get a job afterwards.
But all of these opinions that I have formulated are spurred by the way Rory presents himself. Whether you want to or not Rory and whether it is accurate or not, you give off a very strong impression to us Rory. You're quite a dynamic personality. You love to share the little details of your life with people you don't know at all. I would say that out of any person that posts here, people know more about you than anyone else. Why? Because you tell us! You post pictures, you write narratives, you even share pictures that should never have been taken, let alone shown to someone else.
Why do I say band is not a career move? Well, like Rick pointed out, it can be. But my statement was more directed at you. I took the position I did because I have never heard you express any interest in doing anything with band. All we have ever heard of it was stories of making out, getting drunk, and taking pictures of shirtless people during summer programs/trips. You presented it as some sort of childhood activity that you did because it is fun and a good means to socialize. Whenever someone (me for example) brought up that it might be time to move on or took a shot at band, you then give some glorifying statements of it and state that you wouldn't expect us to understand, as if none of us have ever been through anything like that.
Perhaps you never considered band (or any other music endevors that can come from it) a career move. Well maybe you should. I am fully aware of what can come of it and wouldn't give you any shit if you decided to pursue something of it, even if it is only in the short run.
Just remember Rory, whether this is the truth or not, you present you life to us as if it is some sort of lost cause, as if you have no motivation for anything except buying/playing as much video games as possible and participating in band. So if band is the only positive influence in your life, go with it. Try to make more out of it.

Very nicely put Jeremy. I see your point exactly in that Rory does present himself in ways that would make one wonder about his intentions in life. I also agree that even though Rory puts out a lot of information about his life there are other aspects that we do not know about. My point with the whole thing was that if it's something he feels is a positive influence to him and it's not harming him in any way we should encourage it. (like going to the gym versus playing marathon video games)
