Sandtrap Race
Many of you may remember the timed warthog race we had around Waterworks in Halo 2. It was a timed event to see who had the best hog driving skills. TJ will swear that he was the winner of one of those events, but thats impossible. Why you ask? Because we only did it once and Bobby was the winner. Perhaps you were thinking of a practice run you clown TJ.
Anyways the race has completely evolved in Halo 3. I have created a custom variation of Sandtrap that will be our Mongoose race track. Obviously since a race isn't a built in game type (although it was in Halo 1), it will require some cooperation by each participant. By reading the info in this thread and a few practice runs, you will easily master the track. Lets take a look:
Overview:
![[image] [image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/wildernessman33/Halo%203/sandtrap.jpg) The track follows a figure eight pattern around the map. There is a 6 player maximum. Players spawn directly behind a mongoose so as soon as the game begins, one must rush forward and claim one. The game is set up as 3 rounds, to win the round you must complete 3 laps. Remember there is no real way to enforce this so in order for this to work, everyone must follow the rules. No driving the elephant around the map (Rory).
The Start
![[image] [image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/wildernessman33/Halo%203/2916017-Full.jpg) 6 mongoose lined up right next to each other. You spawn a little bit behind them so the race starts with a race to a mongoose.
The Finish
![[image] [image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/wildernessman33/Halo%203/2916253-Full.jpg) You win by crossing the "finish line" first (after 3 laps). The finish line is actually a hill that you capture when you are in its radius for 1 second. Its is located under the busted Pelican.
Along the way there are barricades and other obstacles that will either help create the border of the track, or to try to get in your way. For example there are:
Booby traps:
![[image] [image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/wildernessman33/Halo%203/2916352-Full.jpg) These are a variation of barrels, computers, camping stools, drums (all the misc crap to improve the look of the game), and fusion cores littered around the track. Fusion cores won't actually kill you, but running over them will kock you over, thus hurting your chances of winning.
Grav Lifts (or as Rory eloquently put, whooshes)
![[image] [image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/wildernessman33/Halo%203/2916666-Full.jpg) At one point on the map there is a blockade where the only way over is by hiiting a grav lift. It will give you just enough air to clear the block, but be careful, landings often screw you up.
So when the grind of serious Halo becomes to much, we turn to more light-hearted games, and so far, racing around Sandtrap has been a blast, just ask anyone who played with me yesterday. We will have an actual clan race competition in the coming weeks, I will make that announcement soon.

Jeremy, may I make one suggestion for an actual tournament? I've got one set up as well, for 1-8 people on Mongeese. (Yes, Mongeese) It goes 4 in front and 4 in back. We can do qualifying runs to see who starts where, so it isn't dependent on where you spawn.
I don't understand one part. If it is three laps, how would that work? Three laps around the center part, or instead of turning into the finish, bypassing it and going to the start?

You bypass the finish and go to the start, but on the end of the third lap you go to the finish hill.

I've been running a few practice laps. Very well done track. A couple of things I would have changed, but that's just me.
One more question. When racing through the area with the obstacles, is going outside of them legal, or must you stay within the outside obstacles?

There is a limit on what you can put on the map so you have to follow the rules for the game type to actually work. That means no cutting corners because you find a gap in obstacles or something similar.

That would make it interesting...
But for the purposes of racing, I will have to remove, although if you are really racing, there would be no time to go picking up lasers.. I have also run into grenades and BR's.
